Ivanka Praises Women's Rights In Saudi Arabia Speech - Gets Attacked Immediately

Perhaps Ivanka was trying to be genial, however, that behavior is more appropriate for house wife placating difficult company. As an advisor and someone who has made it clear she intends to have a very active role in her father’s presidency, when giving a speech in a country known particularly for it’s extreme repression of women, Ivanka’s moment in the spotlight could have been used better.

Along with Ivanka’s message of progress it’s important to note that the primary religion in Saudi Arabia is Wahhabi Sunni Islam. To say that the faith is conservative is an understatement. According to the Wahhabi Sunni Islam faith, women can’t move about freely without explicit permission from their guardian. A guardian is typically her husband or father, but can also be a brother, uncle or any man. Interacting with women who are not their husband or relative is not allowed. Driving a car is forbidden and the only clothing women are allowed to wear are the abaya.
