Arriving home from work, my mom fnd this in the mailbox. She sat devastated in the living room until my father arrived home later. Having it dropped i the box instead of hand delivered was one of he fisrt encounters they had with the "realities of war" vs the Hollywood version they encountered. Fortunately a neighbor who was serving as a clerk in the army and stationed in Vietnam was able to visit me and call my parents with updates on my condition that saved their sanity. He committed suicide eighteen years later. One never knows why that happens nor should one speculate. I've never listened to my own advice. From conversations we had before and after the army I believe a factor was his rejection of the gay man within him.
