Eric Brackett - August 3, 2017 Sen. Tammy Duckworth(D-Ill.) has introduced bills which would protect veterans from deportation and grant a path to citizenship through military service. These bills would ban the deportation of veterans who have committed nonviolent offenses as well as require all military training sites to maintain naturalization offices so military members who are not citizens have a path towards citizenship. The introduction of these bills regarding deportation and naturalization comes at a time when the Trump administration has prompted Congress to pass stricter laws regarding immigration. In a statement given to BuzzFeed, the former Iraq War veteran said that veterans should not have to face the fear of deportation after they have given so much to serve the United States.
